Thank you for joining us for our first episode! CenterD was born of an idea: that the extremes are dominating social media and we need a conversation that brings us together from the center out. We certainly have viewpoints, but we will call BS on both sides as needed, and we’ll have frank conversations. Hopefully we’ll have a few laughs along the way! In addition to the podcast, we’ll be using this space to post brief explainer videos covering key topics and breaking down what you need to know, from the center. Listen to the audio or check out the video! Highlights from our first episode are included below:
CenterD is a platform for news analysis, and we will certainly focus on national politics, but we’ll also cover culture, and the ideas shaping brand marketing and public relations.
On our first episode — 100 Days — our panelists are former Obama White House communications advisor and former DHS spokesman Luis Miranda, former Clinton Administration appointee and former Republican senior staff on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Carl Meacham, and former CBS executive, author and publicist Jeremy Murphy.
This is a spirited conversation — and here are the highlights:
At 100 days, Donald Trump’s approval numbers are in the low 40s, reflecting the damage being done to the economy, our national security, and the damage being done to the basic functioning of the federal government.
At the same time, polls show Democrats still have a long way to go, and a recent ABC/Washington Post/Ipsos poll showed that more voters trust Trump more to deal with America’s problems than Democrats in Congress.
So what now? The conversation delves into the challenge Democrats have in trying to make their own points, but also calling out lies as they happen. At the same time, if Republicans are setting the agenda on the issue, Democrats cannot dwell on or relitigate the same issues they lost on in November. They’ll have to figure out how to set the agenda.
If the American public can track Fantasy Football can they see through the smoke and mirrors of Washington? One of our panelists certainly thinks so. Will Democrats overcome virtue signaling? Is this all just a tv show?
And the realities of governing are putting state governors in a difficult position, so we cover the hugs and disaster funding that show it.
Last week, one of our panelists also had his second book hit virtual audio book shelves. Jeremy Murphy tells us about his book — a firsthand account of his ten years traveling with stars all over the world as the editor of a glossy entertainment magazine — “Too Good to Fact Check: Flying the Skies with Stars, Scotch, and Scandal (Mostly Mine).”
If nothing else, you won’t want to miss our look back at a classic American film that warned us in a way about the reality show we are all living in. Here’s a hint, we’ll be back with more soon!
-Luis.
